Annin is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball franchise. She makes her debut in "Mystery of the Dark World ", the 152nd episode of the Dragon Ball anime, which premiered on April 12, 1989.
Biography[]
Annin is the guardian of the Furnace of Eight Divisions, the border between life and Other World. She was also one of the few to appear
working under King Yemma that did not appear to be an ogre. Although initially referred to as a he, it later turns out she is a deity with the appearance of an attractive young female. Following his engagement to Chi-Chi, Goku confronts her in an effort to extinguish the rekindled flames of Fire Mountain which threaten the Ox King's village. Annin transforms into a giant, using her headpiece as well as gales caused by her cape to fend of Goku, until Goku counters her techniques using the Bancho fan. Her last act was to open the top hatch to the furnace so Goku could repair the holes inside, after this she is never seen nor mentioned again but it is presumed she continues her usual job as guardian of the furnace, with Grandpa Gohan serving as her attendant.
She does not appear in the manga by Akira Toriyama.
